Welcome back! While autumn is unfolding a colour palette as varied as the many languages and cultures in Europe, we are preparing the concluding phase of the ELRC project:
The organisation of the 12th LRB meeting is already in full swing. The meeting of the ELRC Language Resource Board, chaired by the European Commission, will take place on 9 November 2002 in Prague, during the EU Council presidency turn of the Czech Republic. With the advent of the DIGITAL Europe Programme and the emergence of a European Language Data Space (LDS), the importance of language data and language models has significantly increased, and the concluding big event of the ELRC project will be dedicated to paving the way into this new era.
During the LRB meeting, we will also present the second edition of the ELRC White Paper. ELRC’s vision has always been to strive for a true digital single market where all EU citizens can access information irrespective of the language they speak. In 2022, our investigation highlighted the fact that, although many limiting factors have remained since 2019, existing approaches such as dedicated funding, central infrastructures, but also relevant tools and technologies today indeed facilitate the sharing of language data.
Most of all, the local ELRC representatives are already working on the contents of the final ELRC Country workshops, which will be held in October and November. With only four events left, we can already look back on impressive numbers and findings, but we don’t want to reveal too much at this point – read more about this in our next article.
