The Prague-based language service provider (LSP) Memsource announced yesterday afternoon that it will be utilizing Tencent Cloud’s machine translation (MT) system, which is now available within Memsource Translate. Tencent Machine Translation is now available to Memsource users after completing an in-app payment. Tencent Cloud’s MT engine utilizes both neural machine translation (NMT) and statistical machine translation (SMT) models, and it can translate back and forth between more than 160 different language pairs. Tencent Machine Translation is particularly notable for its Chinese-language capabilities — the MT engine was noted to have the highest recorded human evaluation scores for English-to-Chinese translation and the highest automated scores for Chinese-to-English translation at the 2018 Workshop on Machine Translation. “In the past, we observed that MT struggles with certain language pairs, and this is especially true when Chinese is a source or target language,” said Memsource’s chief technical officer (CTO), Dalibor Frívaldský. “By integrating Tencent Cloud’s MT solution, we are providing not just our customers, but also our auto-select algorithm, with new and meaningful tools for better translation.” Tencent Machine Translation is now one of the four MT engines available through Memsource Translate. Memsource Translate uses artificial intelligence to auto-select the most suitable MT engine for a given project or client, by analyzing the language pair and the content being translated. Memsource notes that it expects the integration of Tencent Machine Translation to improve translation outcomes and quality for translations between English and Chinese. Tencent Cloud was founded in 1998 and is headquartered in Shenzhen, China, with offices all around East Asia as well as in the United States.
